Our Story

Our Vision

Our vision is to be a self-sustaining organisation supporting our diverse communities, by providing benevolent relief through collaborative volunteering.

    Our Mission

An independent not-for-profit organisation committed to supporting the well-being of our Sunshine Coast local communities through the provision of a range of support programs and fostering excellence in volunteering.

      Who we are

      🕰️ Our History

Since 2004, Volunteering Sunshine Coast (VSC) has played a vital role in connecting people with purpose.

      👥 26,000+ Volunteers Supported

Over the years, we’ve supported more than 26,000 volunteers — individuals from all walks of life, including those facing mental health challenges, disability, and long-term unemployment.

Through programs like Pathways to Employment and Spontaneous Disaster Volunteers, many found meaningful opportunities either directly with VSC or through our network of 130+ member organisations.

      🧭 Driven by People

Our work is powered by the dedication of volunteers and staff based at Maroochydore and Caloundra Centrelink offices, along with our Executive Management Team.

Their commitment has helped us guide, place, and support thousands of volunteers across the region.

🌱 Creating a Stronger Sunshine Coast

Through this collective effort, we’ve helped build a more inclusive, resilient community — one where everyone has the opportunity to contribute, belong, and thrive.

      What we do

      👨‍💼 Our Leadership & Team

At Volunteering Sunshine Coast, we’re powered by a passionate team of dedicated volunteers, led by CEO Neill Gillatt and guided by our experienced Mentor Board. Together, we deliver meaningful support to both volunteers and community organisations across the region.

Here’s how we make a difference:

      🤝 Empowering Volunteer Choice

We help individuals make informed decisions about volunteering, offering guidance, resources, and support tailored to their interests, skills, and life circumstances.

      🔄 Pathways to Employment

Through our Pathways to Employment program, we support people seeking paid work by helping them engage in volunteer roles that:

      • Keep their skills current

      • Rebuild confidence and self-esteem

      • Open doors to future employment opportunities

      🚨 Disaster Response Volunteers

In partnership with the Sunshine Coast Council, we coordinate Spontaneous Volunteers during times of crisis — providing hands-on support for individuals and communities affected by disasters and emergency events.

      🧭 Volunteer Referrals

We connect volunteers with over 100 not-for-profit member organisations, covering a wide range of sectors — from community services and the arts to environment and health.

      🏛️ Advocating for Volunteering

We collaborate with the government, corporate, and community sectors to recognise, promote, and celebrate the value of volunteering — reinforcing its role in building a more resilient and connected community.
